Film planning - The Script

The script

Script for the voice over:
2 Days Later... appears on the screen
Holly: It all began in secondary school... I have always seen myself as the outsider of friendships groups. I've never been accepted by the 'it' girl Chanel. Just because she's got long brown hair, wears a tone of make up, has fake boobs and fake nails...Anyways enough about her.
Holly: So it was just your average school day, but this one particular day was different. I had friends, people actually smiled at me and knew I assisted. I mean I know deep down it's only because I was having party but I was popular for once so I didn't care.
Voice over fades out
Channel: (walks over to holly's table at the end of a lesson) Sorry about the other day
Holly: ( holly pauses, puts her pen down and looks up) It's ok, are you coming to my party?
Channel: ( with a sassy tone Channel says) It better be good see ya later
(she flicks her hair and struts off)
Voice over fades back in
Holly: Deep down I knew I shouldn't be trying to impress her but her sweet 16th is coming up and I NEED AN INVITE!
The school day had finished and Holly went home to her parents packing up their bags ready for their trip away.
Holly's Mum: You will be ok on your own won't you? I've left all the emergency numbers on the fridge and some money in an envelope for any emergencies, remember to switch everything off when you got to bed and...
Holly: YES mum I get it! I'm going to be 16 in a day not 6.
Holly's Mum: I only say it because I care Holly
The night of the party
Holly: I'm excited but so nervous, what if it’s a shamble, what if don't look nice, what if...
Holly: The night was great...until I got Busted, it was an embarrassment. I'm now the school joke!
Threatening messages everyday, snide remarks, horrible name calling, why did I try and be a bitchy girl like chanel.

Film planning - Shots list

Shots lists

shots that we would be likely to use:

  • close up of the main characters mobile phone receiving abusive texts - we will use this shot  to show how much the main character is getting bullied by people and to show the drama of teenagers.
  • low angle shot of the bully walking looking at her phone - this shot will be sued as it makes her look a lot more powerful as she will be more high up compared to everyone else.
  • medium shot of the bully looking at her phone - this shot will be shown to connote the focus that he character has on the bad things that people are saying to her, form using this shot we will also be able to show the sadness on the characters face as she reads the horrible texts that she is receiving.
  • close up shots of the bottles from the party - this will be used to show the mess that the careless teenagers have made in someone else's house and to show how out of hand the party ended up being.
  • medium close ups of the girls getting ready for the party - this shot will be used to show the typical outfits that the girls are trying on as they are mostly short skirts and dresses with high heels. It will also show the girls putting on a lot of makeup and doing their hair, which again is typical of a teenage girl.

Film planning - USP and target audience

USP and target audience

The USP of our film would be that the film includes a lot of drama and to teenagers this is interesting and eye catching as teenagers are typically always involved in drama. it also involves alcohol and partying which connotes the typical behaviour that teenagers are seen to have.

The target audience for our film would be teenagers and it is rated at a 15. We chose to have It aimed at a teenage audience because the are able to relate to the film a lot more as there a teenagers in the film and the genre is also a teen angst film. The content of our film includes swearing and alcohol use which is why we rated the film at the age of 15. The target audience will be able to relate to the film because it includes a lot of behaviour that most teenagers have, for example the partying and drinking and also the bullying as a lot of teenagers are either quite nasty or are the ones getting bullied.

Film planning - Fonts and titles

Fonts and Titles

The fonts and titles in our short opening of a film will be a cartoon style, this is because it relates to teenagers as it is an immature kind of font, the titles will also be very bold and big. The colour of the font that we will be using will be just white, we chose to use this colour because it will be bright and will also match the font colour of our production company logo.

I think that this style of writing will catch the eye of our target audience even more because it is a more immature theme and it is suited to their age group. From doing research I can see that this style of font is also used in other successful teen angst films too.

Film planning - Production logo and reasons

Production logo and reasons

This is our company production logo, we have chosen for it to look like this because the Oscar award is given to you if you win at having a good film. Due to this being a famous film award, we chose to have the production company called 'Oscar Productions' as the synergy of the logo will influence the audience into relating our production company to the great Oscar awards.

We chose to have the Oscar award in the centre of the background and the name of our production company overlapping this as it stands out bold to the audience, and the black background makes the award and the name of the company stand out even more and become more eye catching. in order to make this logo, we used photoshop.

Film planning - Planning of characters

Planning of characters

The characters in our film will all be stereotypically related to the genre of our film, teen angst.

The main character, Holly, will be an innocent and geeky type of girl. She would dress in clothes that are white/grey/baby colours too connote the innocence of her and also some darker colours to reflect the constant mood that the main character has as she is being bullied.

However, when she throws her party, she will be dressed more differently, she will be wearing a short black dress with heels on, she will have her hair and make-up done and will be wearing no glasses. We have chosen to dress her like this for her party as it is what you would expect to usually see a girl dressed in at a party, and it is also typical for a girl to have her hair and make-up done. The switch between what the main character usually wears to what she then wears at the party is effective because it makes the audience think about the difference between some teenagers and what the typical image of them is.

The mum and stepdad in the will be wearing what a typical mother and step father would be expected to wear, the mother wearing a casual jumper and jeans and the stepdad a casual top and jeans with a quilted jacket. the personality of these characters are also what you would expect to see of a mum , she will be friendly and calm, however the stepdad is quite strict.

The other main character in the short film will be dressed in a short skirt and top with high heels, this is a very typical outfit for a teenage girl to wear as they are usually seen as wearing short skirts/dresses. the colours of her clothes will be dark to connote that she is more in power as she is the bully

The girls will be dressed in short dresses also with their hair and makeup done in high heels, this is a very typical view that people have of teenage girls.

Film Planning - Settings

Settings

The settings that we have chosen to use are Longsands Academy, the main characters house and some of the characters' bedrooms.

We chose to use Longsands Academy as one of our settings because it is a school filled with teenager so it relates to the teen angst genre, it is also an easy location for us to access because this is the school we go to. Having this as one of our chosen locations makes the teen angst theme more typical as teenagers are often seen is these places and are also included in a lot of other teen angst films.

We chose to use the main characters house as a setting because the film includes a party at her house, also it is an easy location for us to access and it is also a good facility to use for having a party at.

We also chose to use the other main characters bedrooms as one of our settings because the bedroom would be set out like you would expect to see a teenagers bedroom to look like, following along with the film genre.

Film Planning - Music and sound decisions

Music and sound decisions

From doing research and viewing other teen angst films, we have decided that the music that we will be using in our short opening of a film will be mostly energetic diegetic music. This is because it relates to the stereotypical behaviour of teenagers, being energetic and happy. When the teenager sin the film are getting ready for the party, the music will still be energetic but will be a slowed down a little bit to make it more intense for the upcoming party. When it is the scene of the party, the music will be a lot more energetic and louder.

We will also be using synchronous sound when texts messages are coming through from people texting the main character telling her about how bad her party was. we will be using this to emphasis the amount of texts that she will receive.

Diegetic sound will also be sued when the characters are talking to one another, this is so the audience is able to have an understanding of what is going on. Diegetic sound is also used for the voiceover that will be placed in the film of the main character talking about her life/the party.

Also, we will use sound effects when the short opening of our film has a scene that is rewinded, when the film rewinds the sound will be made loud and clear to connote that the scene is going back in time.

Film Planning - Location and risk assessment
